🎾 JOOLA has announced that they've officially filed a suit against USA Pickleball. It’s been just over a week since USAP upheld its decision to keep the Gen 3 paddles off of the list after removing them in mid-May.

JOOLA has maintained that the Gen 3 paddles that hit the market in April are “materially and structurally the same” as paddles that were approved by USAP back in September and suggested that their removal from the Approved Paddle List would result in legal action. ⚖️

In the latest installment of the JOOLA Gen 3 paddle saga, USA Pickleball has announced that the recently submitted paddles did not meet approved equipment standards. 🏓❌

This means that the paddles will remain absent from the Approved Paddles List. 📋🚫

They were removed from the list on May 15 when JOOLA informed USAP that it had submitted the wrong paddles for certification back in November. 😬❗

Just Tuesday, UPA announced a $50k fine 💸 and a 60-day suspension ⛔ for Andrei Daescu. Less than 24 hours later, the #PPA has banned the JOOLA Gen3 paddles from competition 🚫🏓.

"Those #Paddles are not approved due to a discrepancy with USAP. Paddles need to be listed on USAP and pass PPA testing protocols tested by the independent laboratory PPL. Thank you for your understanding," said the tour in a statement.

🏓 United Pickleball Association—the holding company for both the #PPA Tour and #MLP—announced UPA of America as the global governing body of the sport. 🌍

That release also announced the creation of an Equipment Manufacturer Advisory Board and an Equipment Player Advisory Board to help set paddle standards and regulations for the UPA. 🛠️

Those rules have yet to be finalized, so we can assume that the paddles from USA Pickleball’s Approved Paddle List will remain viable for use in at least the next few PPA Tour and MLP events through mid-June. 📅

🚨 The new generation 3 paddles from JOOLA – the Perseus 3, Scorpeus 3, Magnus 3, and Hyperion 3 – have all been removed from the USA Pickleball Approved Paddle list. Additionally, the new Paddletek TKO-CX has reportedly gone missing. 🎾

USA Pickleball shared a statement emphasizing that "Paddles that do not appear on USA Pickleball’s Approved Paddle list are not certified for use in USA Pickleball-sanctioned tournaments". 📄

The UPA statement reads: "For on-site testing at #MLP and #PPA Tour events, UPA has been working with and will continue to work with Pickle Pro Labs (PPL), who are an independent third party seeking to protect the integrity of the game and eliminate the potential for product-related issues from having a negative impact on the growing market." 🏓

While this doesn't say what tests will change or which updates will be made to testing, we can assume new or better testing (something many pro players, including Ben Johns, have asked for) will be announced at some point. 🔍

Sarah Ansboury's paddle got challenged, tested and failed the test. She was DQed from the tournament! The PPA is taking swift action against paddles, especially after the PPA Red Rock where it seemed like nothing was done.
