jackmunro will become the second-ever active college pickleball player to play for a @majorleaguepb team following in collin_shick7's footsteps.

Jack was chosen 2nd overall in the Challenger Level shuffle draft for the chicagoslicemlp, meaning they're expecting BIG THINGS from the kid.

Fresh off his biggest win as a pro (APP New York City), we'll see how this college star handles the MLP!

A hot topic is always whether certain players who have success would have that kind of success playing with a different or lesser partner in #PPA Tour doubles. πŸ€”

But what if we could test it? Well, we do have such a vehicle and that is the shuffle draft event. Recently, APP had a shuffle draft event. It was interesting, but of course the level of play was not on the level of PPA play. How about if we do a PPA shuffle draft event? 🎾πŸ”₯

Each team will receive πŸ’° $500,000 πŸ’° in draft dollars to use - think Monopoly money.
Teams are allowed to use up to an additional πŸ’΅ $500,000 πŸ’΅ of their own money that they pay to MLP, which gives the teams that are willing to spend the most an auction cap of πŸ’Έ $1 million πŸ’Έ.
The minimum draft slot bid is πŸ’² $10,000 πŸ’², so hypothetically speaking, a team could bid πŸ’° $970,000 πŸ’° on the first overall draft slot and then get picks 46, 47, and 48 for πŸ’΅ $10,000 each πŸ’΅.

βœ…The @majorleaguepb draft is set for 4/2/2024 Premier Level and 4/3/2024 Challenger Level. Who'll be the second woman off the board in Premier Level? Anna Leigh Waters might snag the top spot.

➑️Previously, catherineparenteau.pb was a contender, but annabright.pb's recent wins suggest she's a strong contender. ettawright could be a bold pick with immense potential.

Draft dynamics will determine selections.

3 Storylines for MLP Dallas! MLP begins today and we have you covered on the top storylines going into the event!⭐ Who will make it out of the group of death? Premier Level Group A is loaded with talent and features the defending champs (Orlando Squeeze), Ben John's Chicago Slice, the Julian Arnold-led AZ Drive and the Texas Ranchers. 2 of the teams will be eliminated in group play. While the odds on favorites for coming in last are the Ranchers, the big question is who will be that second team eliminated. 1 team is leaving this tournament feeling surprised their run ended early.⭐ Riley Newman - the master at getting silver medals and runner-up trophies. Only joking here...well kind of. Riley Newman has often been touted as the second-best men's doubles player on the planet and an exceptional mixed doubles player, but those fan-given accolades haven't earned him an MLP title. His DC Pickleball Team was up 2-0 in games in the finals last MLP before the squeeze completed one of the best comebacks in pickleball history. Now the field is even tighter, more pressure has mounted and everyone is wondering if Riley Newman can prove to the pickleball world he can close matches and win a championship!⭐There's always that one player in the Challenger Level that plays out of their mind, plays better than their draft position and ultimately helps their team in winning the Challenger Level trophy. Last tournament it was CJ Klinger.Last season it was Pablo Tellez, Christian Alshon and Connor Garnett. Who's that player this time around? Emily Ackerman? Erik Pailet? Wes Burrows? The list goes on, but only one of these players will become THAT player! We'll find out starting on Thursday.

Orlando Squeeze captain Anna Bright said her teammates wanted Susannah Barr and not Rachel Rohrabacher in the draft."They were like, 'Who's Rachel? I've never seen her. I felt a lot of heat in the draft, but I never thought it was a bad decision to have Rachel. Then in the finals I felt like a genius," Anna said on the MLP podcast.#Pickleball #MLP #Podcast #News

The Greatest Comeback in Pro Pickleball History, Ben Johns & Anna Leigh Waters NOT making it to the finals and the meteoric rise of Rachel Rohrabacher for the Orlando Squeeze were all fantastic storylines exiting #MLP Atlanta! But I'm here to give you 3 Unique Takeaways following possibly the biggest Pro Event in Pickleball history. 1) Tim Parks 1, Riley Newman 0. Parks, co-owner of the SoCal Hard 8s, got his first MLP championship under his belt before Newman (whom Parks drafted with his first-round pick in Season 1 of 2023). Parks with Newman by his side in Season 1, had abysmal results, which came to the surprise of the Pickleball world. How could Newman, being as good as he is, not at the very least get to one semifinal in the latter two events of season 1. Parks even barked at a celebrity ProAm earlier last week that Newman wasn't a significant factor in Season 1 when being interviewed. All that trash talk prior to the tournament was put to rest when Parks' Hard 8s took home gold in the Challenger Level final over the Las Vegas Night Owls via Dreambreaker. Newman on the other hand was on the wrong side of a Dreambreaker with his D.C. Pickleball Team blowing a 2-0 games lead against the Orlando Squeeze in the Premier Level finals. 2) Ewa Radzikowska Season 1 and Season 2 MLP Champ. So far the Polish Radzikowska is the only player to win an MLP event in Season 1 and Season 2 in 2023. She won the first two events of Season 1 with the Bay Area Breakers, alongside Rachel Summers, Pablo Tellez and Christian Alshon; she followed that up by winning MLP Atlanta with the Hard 8s featuring Yana Newell, Todd Fough and CJ Klinger. While these wins were in the Challenger Level, it takes nothing away from the value Radzikowska brings to her team in all 3 phases of pickleball: gender doubles, mixed doubles and singles. 3) Ackerman follows in Connor Garnett's Footsteps. As I always say (well not really, but I always think it), to make it far in the Challenger Level you need players that got β€œsnubbed” from the Premier Level or β€œwill be” in the Premier Level next draft. Obviously, that has changed since there won't be a draft nor two different levels come the start of 2024, but the sentiment remains the same. I mean look at the Bay Area Breakers who won the first two events in Challenger Level Season 1, they had Pablo Tellez and Christian Alshon who were drafted in the Premier Level for Season 2 (they also had Vivian Glozman in Event 3 in Season 1, who was also drafted in the Premier Level for S2). For me, Ackerman was that player for the Night Owls in Atlanta and she follows in her former teammate Connor Garnett's footsteps, who made the jump from Challenger to Premier Level after winning the Super Final in Season 1! In Atlanta, Ackerman went 4-2 in the group stage on Thursday, then went 2-2 in the playoffs, but had key singles points to take her team to the finals. While her run ended in a loss to the Hard 8s in the championship on Saturday, being a runner-up in any MLP event is something to be proud of. Ackerman followed by Yates Johnson has the most upside on this team. We already know what we're getting from Spencer Smith and Susannah Barr: solid veteran play. But it's Ackerman, that gives this team the X factor they needed to get into the finals. Ackerman is no stranger to coming back after a finals defeat, as she and her Chicago Slice teammates did just that in Event 3 of Season 1 to eventually take home the Super Finals win. Look for her and the Night Owls to do just that in her hometown at the next MLP event in Thousand Oaks in November.

πŸ‘Œ Rohrabacher more than earned her stripes in Atlanta. She looks like a steal in the fourth round for Orlando.🎯 Julian Arnold (AZ Drive) lived up to his seventh overall draft pick. All Eyes are on the Pickleball World as we enter MLP Atlanta tomorrow. Here are my top 3 storylines!1) Yes, the Tour Wars are officially over (for now), but that doesn't mean the ramifications are done. Players signed with either the PPA or MLP for certain reasons. Now with the merging of these 2 companies, many players feel animosity toward that deal. Can these players overcome those feelings and put on a show for their teams and fans??2) It's the start of Season 2 of 2023, and with that comes a total mix up compared to the last event. Challenger Level teams are now Premier Level teams and vice versa. Rosters are different as well after the redraft, so we will see new partnerships formed and new strategies utilized.3) Parris Todd was taken in the first round, which comes with a lot of responsibility. The Atlanta Bouncers then drafted her APP women's doubles partner Simone Jardim, Pablo Tellez and her mixed doubles partner Hunter Johnson. Let's see if Todd can lead this team into the playoffs and make a deep run!One other storyline I'm curious to see unfold is the new scoring format. There is no more "freeze" when you get to 20 or 18. Yes, you have to win on your serve, but if Team A has 20 points, Team B doesn't get frozen at 18. Instead, they can score points all the way to 20. This gives teams that are down (often underdogs) a slightly higher percentage of taking a game off the favorites. Now it's time to tune in and watch! #MLP #Pickleball #atlanta

2 big changes have been made for the upcoming 2024 #MLP season. I'm sure there are more to come.1) The 2024 draft is canceled. Instead, there will be a free agency with a salary cap of $1.5 million/team. Teams can choose to spend that money on 4 players or more, essentially creating a farm team and covering themselves in case one of their "starters" gets injured.2) No more Promotion and Relegation. Those aspects of the league have been canceled. The whole 2023 season was originally pitched as each team competing to be selected into the Premier Level (the higher, above the Challenger Level) for 2024.The top 12 teams in 2023, were going to be in the Premier Level for 2024, while the remaining teams were going to be put in the Challenger Level. That has been canceled. Now the MLP will have 24 teams competing in the same level. This is just the beginning of probably many more MLP changes. What do you all think of these updates?

Will we see a redraft for MLP Season 2? Sounds like the MLP owners are voting on this at the moment. What do you think? Comment πŸ‘‡MLP Atlanta, the first event in Season 2 of 2023, is almost 2 weeks away and we still do not know with absolute certainty if there will be a redraft or not. While the League hasn't even mentioned this as a possibility, the media is talking and says it's possible. If there is a redraft it will definitely shake up the rosters and the MLP forever as that omits Ben Johns, Anna Leigh Waters, Catherine Parenteau, Julian Arnold and others. However, at the start of 2024, this will most likely be the case anyway, unless a new deal is struck between the 2 leagues. We will have an answer soon!#PPA #MLP #Pickleball

With the Tour Wars seemingly at an end, and players choosing either the #PPA or #MLP , one thing is for sure, everyone is getting PAIDπŸ€‘πŸ’°.The two poster people for each league, Ben Johns of the PPA and Tyson McGuffin of the MLP are rumored to have received 7-figure/year contracts, which is MASSIVE for the sports and provides it with more legitimacy. With players getting paid more money, or more capital overall in the sport, it's going to level up everything within the sport: sponsorships, commitment, skill level, etc.Even players outside the Premier Level-drafted players that have signed with these tours have been rumored to receive 6-figure/year contracts, making it higher than rookie contracts for other US-based professional sports leagues.Let's see what happens next though! #Pickleball
